Discipline of Saving that Harsh Thought
Dallas Willard teaches about disciplines which are actually tools
we use to grow in our discipleship. There are countless disciplines, we generate them to meet our specific needs.
When we’re upset by others and would like to release the pressure in a harsh word or expression, consider the thought’s source. Was it generated by our pride, our hurt or maybe our impatience? If we choose to, we can hold onto it, and revise and edit it within the safety of God’s love
Experience the joy of not releasing that harshness onto the world. We can turn life from negative to positive for ourselves and those around us. We save ourselves so much sadness tomorrow. So sweet are the bridges we didn’t burn for a moment’s release. Thank You, father.
Meanwhile, do those unexpressed thoughts rot and fester inside, their effects gradually poisoning us? Or, does God reward our choice by sweetening and softening them into nourishment and goodness, creating a beautiful garden, a backdrop for our lives and futures.
All the time, this “secret” gift to the world is creating in our souls, such joy.
