Whispers from the Holy Spirit

I picture Jesus sitting in an easy chair with another chair across from Him and a large print Bible on a table in the middle.  In the opposite chair is a Believer and God says to the Believer, “Remember “such and such a time?”  “Show Me, from My Book, how you decided to handle this situation?”  He’s not interested in worldly influences, or other people who said it would be ok, or any other lame excuses.  The only authority for our decisions is His Word.  Are you looking at the world out from under His wing?  It's the best seat in the house! 

  In Matthew 13, Jesus spoke of parables as purposely leaving certain things up to personal interpretation. I have professed that much of the New Testament is a series of parables, so many things have been left to individual interpretation. It shows in the vast number of commentaries. Even pastors disagree on things. God wants us to each think for ourselves. Strangely, this brings/bridges me to my theory that as we spend time together, even with unbelievers, we should leave others in a frame of mind to worship God. These two principles have  bridged to bring me closer to the Lord. When I deal with others with this purpose in mind, I come away with a new, calm, secure feeling--very much Under God’s wing. Do we each need to find our own way to be close to God? A form of parable?  In the past “under His wing” was an emotional feeling. This is almost physical and can be reached at will. 

The Oxford Dictionary says about secrets:  “ known about by only a few people; kept hidden from others .”  Usually the darker the secret, the fewer people we share them with, which in turn magnifies the power.  The true power of a secret lies in its secrecy.  The shame it harbors and feeds.   A TV program about a man who receives, in the mail, secrets written on postcards, sent by  strangers.  A million over the past 20 years.   Most secrets involve someone else or our interaction with another or our fear of others’ opinions of us. Some are about the things we know about other individuals or groups and our determination to keep this to ourselves, hoping to prevent its spread.  Our own version of “The buck stops here.”   The trouble is the emotional toll this takes.  Those secrets weigh on us.  If we share them with others it's like breaking the surface after being trapped under water...

Do you remember when there were test patterns in the morning before TV was 24 a day and then a closing message with a man piloting a plane and a “meaningful” poem being read in the background by someone with a soothing, comforting voice, talking about God being your co-pilot?                         Rather: If God is your co-pilot, it’s time to trade places .

It's 4:00 p.m. and I'm still at my computer getting thoughts down as they stream through my head. This one is so important that I can't wait for tomorrow to post it: CHOICE : The Second Most Basic Christian Principle. The first, most basic, most important principle of the Bible is that God sent Jesus to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins.  The second most basic principle is choice.  We must/get to choose whether we accept this as full payment for our sins and place our trust for salvation here .  If we accept Jesus’ work on the cross as a gift, full payment for our sins, (that means no help from us, He’s fully capable) we become children of God.  (This is the only way, it’s not automatic, everyone is not one of God’s children by default.)  Remember, salvation is so simple and so basic that everyone/anyone, even you , can choose it.   It’s still morning again and as I message my doctors at the University, I’m reminded of a basic principle I lived by during my working years there.   God was always my boss .   I worked at the University for 35 years as a secretary and accountant.   From the U’s internal temporary service to permanent, full-time positions.   From temp worker to a position where I replaced a major database within the University's medical research community,    God was always my boss .   I seldom talked about work after 4:30 p.m. but God was always my boss .     My paychecks were signed by University personnel, on their official checks, but God was always my boss .   I always worked in Director’s offices but God was my real boss .    I loved every different assignment I had but God was always my boss .   Someone aleays interviewed, hired and supervised me but God was always my real boss As I made daily work decisions and paced myself...

I still don’t understand.  It’s not yet noon and God has given me something to chew on.  When COVID stated, I wished the very large church I attended would have services in the parking lot-summer was on it’s way.  For whatever reason, they didn't and the method they chose was beyond my computer skills and I was never able to get their services on my home computer. Much to my surprise I did find a church that had parking lot services.  A stage was put up and people could sit in their cars and listen on their radios or bring lawn chairs and sit on the grass or under the shade of the beautiful old trees.  It was a Lutheran church which I knew nothing about; I was brought up in a Baptist church and attended a non-denominational church as an adult.  That’s where I got saved.   Today, my senior residence has a chapel and they present what they call non-denominational services on Sundays.  That means it’s a mixture of Catholic and Lutheran.  Bo...

  The Ten Commandments were rules for Old Testament Saints to live by. For New Testament Saints they’re instructions on how to please God. He’s more interested in our relationship with Him. We (NTSaints) no longer have to go to God through a priest, we go directly to God for our guidance and comfort and look out at the world from under the comfort and safety of His wing. We get to choose our level and area of involvement with the world. All day long God wants us to choose Him, put Him first above all others. Thank You, Father.   God keeps giving me more chances and prods .            GET ON THE BALL! Our brain believes the incident is happening again and again and again, like the little boy reliving 911 through ”reruns”.  Visit with God instead of rehashing.
