Listening to God
Although I've been saved for 40 years I have developed a closer relationship with God in the last few months through a trial I've been experiencing at my new place of residence. The enormity of the trial and my complete helplessness in handling it has shown me how much I need Him. A woman where I live has decided that I need to be a part of her life and that she is capable of "fixing" me. The simple fact is that I only to want to have a polite "nod and Hello" relationship with her but she wants more. I have learned from watching many interactions between the 150+ tenants here that not everyone likes any one person. That's fine and that's normal. There are people who glance away when they see me coming and I pass by quietly. Often that changes and I try to let the other person set the pace.
We have such an advantage because God assures us that that no matter what happens, we're tucked securely under wing and He's in charge. I try to be gentle and, most of all, consistent. Exchanges in people's lives are brief but ongoing attitudes set the background for our lives. Keep your eyes on God and always, most of all, leave the other person in a frame of mind to praise God, no matter what concession and preparation that takes, mostly prayer. That thought, that idea works as a silent guide for living our lives.
